Recently I received a very special surprise: my dear friend OM Peter, DA6PS, gave me his Xiegu G90!
The rig had a few minor issues, which is why Peter now uses a different one. For me, however, it was a wonderful gift – especially since I had been torn between the Xiegu X6100 and the G90 ever since Peter first brought both radios to one of our club evenings. Thanks to his generosity, that decision is on hold for now.
Of course, the little transceiver needed some care before going back on the air:
- the faulty microphone jack is still on my to-do list,
- I already repaired the damaged microphone cable,
- and I also fixed the frequency knob so that it now clicks properly again.
After another firmware update, the previously missing functions came back to life:
- the built-in antenna tuner works as it should again,
- and the waterfall display is back in action as well.
I’m very much looking forward to operating QRP with battery power out in the field – whether on a hill, by the river, or just in the countryside, enjoying radio with low power but lots of fun.
A big thank you to Peter for this great gift – another exciting chapter in my amateur radio station diary.
