For quite some time I wanted to use my Xiegu G90* as a portable station – whether for POTA, emergency communications, or simply relaxed operation in the field. Now the project is complete: my very own Go-Box in the B&W Outdoor Case Type 3000*.
The Case
The case is absolutely robust, weatherproof, and equipped with three foam insert layers. The layers are laser pre-cut, so small blocks can easily be removed by hand. This allows every device to fit precisely – no wobbling, no squeezing.
The Radio Station
- Xiegu G90* with detached display: The front panel can be conveniently operated while the main unit sits safely inside the case. Both are connected via the included RS232 cable.
- Digirig Interface*: Provides access to digital modes like RTTY, PSK, FT8, and JS8 – perfect for portable data operations.
Power Supply
For power I use a Talentcell 12V LiFePO4 battery pack* with 12.8V, 6Ah, and 76.8Wh. The pack offers more than 3000 charge cycles and reliably powers the station.
The battery comes with a female and male DC5521 connector, one of which I use to connect the radio. A self-soldered 14AWG DC cable with a DC5521 plug on one end and a Mini-Tamiya plug on the other provides power to the G90. Right at the battery I added a 10A blade fuse into the supply line – better safe than sorry.

Antenna Connection
The antenna is connected via a 90° PL adapter directly at the radio. Initially, I planned to install an external connector on the back of the case, but I deliberately decided against it. This way the shell remains intact and continues to offer full protection against moisture and weather.
Cable Management
All cables are routed through cable guide slots in the lowest foam layer. This prevents loose cables, avoids bends or crushed wires in the lid, and keeps everything neat and tidy.
Conclusion
The Xiegu G90 Go-Box is now a compact, weather-protected, and ready-to-go portable station. Whether for voice or digital modes – everything is on board. Thanks to the clever foam insert, the integrated power supply, and clean cable management, I’ve built a solution that is both practical and durable.
